Wren Estate

Wren Estate is only a 90-minute
drive North of Melbourne, in the premium red wine producing region of Heathcote. The region doesn't hold back on its bucolic charm: large vineyards are planted across wide
red Cambrian soil. Wren Estate's own vineyards are located at Mount Camel in Heathcote, covering a total area of about 52 hectares.

Combining grape farm, wine making and cellar door, Wren Estate was awarded the status of a five-star winery in 2010. The vines were planted in 1998. While Shiraz is the predominant grape grown, there are also plantings of Merlot, Malbec and Marsanne.

Wren Estate produces wines from the Estate block and also from old vines from Rutherglen, 200km to the North East. Rutherglen is one of the oldest wine regions in Australia and the warmer conditions produce very concentrated grapes that make very high quality wine.

In the process of vineyard management and winemaking, Wren Estate adheres to the philosopht of keeping the production of their wine: organic and traditional. Artificial chemicals are never used, and it is preferred to recycle the fermented grape residue from previous years.

Our Region

The solis and climate of Heathcote are unique and contribute to the world class wines produced here. The red Cambrian soils that run through central Heathcote are over 500 millions years old and are the oldest soils in Victoria. The have a unique composition that Shiraz responds to incredibly well. The cool weather that runs through the Mt Camel range in central Heathcote also drops the temperature by 2-3 degrees compared to regions around it and this contributes an intense brightness and freshness in the wines.

Our Wines

"They (the Shiraz wines from Heathcote) are unsusally deep in colour, and this depth of coulour remains stable for an unusually long time. Flavour, too - inky dark, ripe and black - seems to be present in uncommon volumn"
